The Walters Buildings Process

Our Process

Built with Purpose. Engineered to Endure.

Every Walters Building project begins with a conversation, not a quote.

Clear Communication, Every Step of the Way

Every site is different—soil, slope, zoning, and building use all affect design and cost. That’s why our process starts on-site, not online. Many builders can give you a fast number. At Walters, we focus on the right number—a true contract price for a building engineered to last for generations.

From your first meeting to the final walk-through, our process is designed to deliver lasting value through engineered precision, premium materials, and a personal commitment to excellence.

Listening First: Understanding Your Vision

Personalized Planning. Honest Guidance.

Every project begins with a simple conversation.

When you contact Walters Buildings—either by phone or through our website—your information is routed to a local District Manager. This person will be your single point of contact from start to finish.

Your District Manager will reach out to schedule a visit to your site to learn about your goals, review your property, and discuss ideas for layout, access, and design.
After the visit, you’ll receive a formal written proposal and preliminary drawings, usually within one week.

Once you’ve had time to review, your District Manager will walk you through the plans and pricing details, making any adjustments needed to align the project with your goals and budget.

Accepting the Proposal: Turning Plans into Action

Commitment with Confidence.

Once you’re ready to move forward, you’ll review the final design, select your colors and accessories, and sign the proposal. A down payment secures your place in our construction schedule, and your District Manager will confirm tentative start dates.

At this stage, you’ll have clear expectations, firm pricing, and no surprises.

Engineering & Manufacturing: American-Made Quality

Built Better. Built to Last.

Once your proposal is signed, your project moves into production. Behind the scenes, our in-house drafting and engineering teams are finalizing your plans, ensuring full compliance with local building codes, snow loads, and wind ratings for your region.

Working on Building Plans
Manufacturing Steel Panels

Next, the Walters’ manufacturing teams begin crafting the custom components that will make your building last for generations:

  • Steel panels are roll-formed in Allenton, Wisconsin, using 28-gauge, G-90 galvanized American steel backed by 35-year fade and chalk warranties.
  • Trusses are engineered and built in Fairfield, Illinois, using 2400 MSR lumber for maximum load-bearing strength and long-term reliability.
  • STP laminated columns are precision-manufactured and treated with .8 CCA preservative, backed by a 50-year warranty for lasting protection against rot and decay
  • Windows, doors, hardware, and fasteners are sourced through our trusted network of American vendors—partners who share our commitment to quality, reliability, and service.

By keeping engineering, fabrication, and logistics under one roof, Walters maintains full control over quality, consistency, and delivery timelines.

Your District Manager stays in touch throughout this phase, coordinating with our production team so that when the first truck arrives, every piece is built for your property, your design, and your future.

Walters Buildings sources only American-made steel and premium-grade lumber, chosen for their proven durability and performance. Every panel and post meets or exceeds industry standards for strength, corrosion resistance, and longevity.

Durability you can trust:

  • Steel panels backed by 35-year fade and chalk warranties.
  • STP laminated columns treated with .8 CCA preservative for decades of protection against rot and decay.
  • Hardware, fasteners, and finishes selected for both form and function, ensuring your building performs as beautifully as it looks.

Local Crews. Lasting Quality.

When construction begins, our trained local crews—specializing in Walters’ proprietary systems—handle every stage of assembly.  Your District Manager remains your point of contact, keeping communication clear and consistent.

Throughout the project, we focus on safety, cleanliness, and precision. Every column, truss, and steel panel is installed to Walters’ engineered standards, ensuring strength you can see and reliability you can trust.

Completion & Customer Care: Standing Behind Every Building

The Building End. The Relationship Begins.

When construction is complete, your District Manager will walk through the finished project with you to ensure every detail meets Walters’ standards—and yours. But that final walkthrough isn’t the end of the process; it’s the beginning of a long-term relationship built on trust, craftsmanship, and service.

For more than six decades, our best advertising has come from the people we’ve built for. Around here, we like to say that our last customer introduces us to our next. That trust drives us to build every structure with care, pride, and craftsmanship worthy of the Walters name.

Built by Walters. Built for You.

With over 65 years of continuous innovation, Walters Buildings has perfected the balance of craftsmanship and engineering. Every detail, every column, panel, and fastener represents our promise: to build better, smarter, and stronger for the people who depend on us.
